Wow! Some of the most powerful words I have ever read. βItβs remembering myself as the entire ocean as I simultaneously experience myself as that drop.β I feel privileged to be a part of the chosen few with whom you share your writing. But the world needs this!
"Iβm coming to believe that perhaps we are meant to root the energy of the stars into this Earth." DANG. And yes! Heartbreaking and beautiful writing, I'm changed by reading it. I'm here for it and for you!!
I am so grateful for your way of being. I recalled "between starshine and clay" from that glorious poem. Earlier this year I would hear "Stars, (you who have) Rooted: Learn to Prosper." Your availability to all worlds is much appreciated. Keep well
"Many of our fiercest revolutionaries also had an equally fierce and robust spiritual life, including regular contact with the unseen. Must we choose to say that it was either the material or the spiritual that decisively defined and shaped them?" - wowowow. so many lines that hit me right in the chest, this being just one of them!!
thank you for this gorgeous, honest, thought-provoking piece. in the beautiful way you have put language to the experience of feeling 'outside-of,' I feel like you are inviting all of us 'inside' right along with you. the wisdom, self-knowledge, and radical *permission* here all feel like such an offering to US - to experience the same. thank you for being a bridge, a both/and bitch, and a truly brilliant mind amongst us. i'm so grateful to be invited into this space!!!!!
You've articulated so beautifully here and given language to a dynamic I didn't even know I was feeling. I feel the deep struggle and pull between the spiritual realm and the physical one and this articulation of how they are in conflict felt like a deep breath. How fitting that you were the one who helped begin my journey with Octavia Butler and what an honor it is to read your words and reflections her now. May we all learn to recognize the pieces of ourselves that serve to be a bridge! I think I'm a both/and kinda bitch too. And I want a custom bound copy of PARABLE OF THE SOWER with this foreword at the front!!!! I hope you choose to share more widely and honored to be here now.
This is so so beautiful, Amissa. I often feel confused by similar pulls in different directions, and how helpful and grounding to be reminded that it's not one or the other, that I can exist in multiple places. Thank you for inviting me into this space with you!

Thank you for always encouraging me to share, and supporting me in believing that itβs worth sharing.
